The Acrylic layer

The Acrylic Layer is the transparent top layer of the Game Vault, and is included with all of our tables. Beneath it, there are optional grid and hex overlays, optional maps from the Printing Library and the Vault Floor. Tuck your games under the Acrylic Layer to keep them safe, flat, and free from spill.

One of our favorite features: Use the Acrylic Layer as a whiteboard. Make notes, draw dungeons, mark initatives, doodle off to the sides.

What can I use to write on it?

Treat it like a whiteboard. Felt tips only, roller ball tips will dent the surface. And though it shouldn't dent the surface, you probably don't want to deal with removing crayon or grease pencils.

Wet Erase vs. Dry Erase?

We recommend wet erase over dry erase. In the heat of battle, lines can disappear with an ill-moved piece. Wet erase allows you to keep your map and any other marks you make, until you decide to remove them.

Our favorite wet erase markers are Staedtler brand.

Cleaning and mark removal

Again, we recommend wet erase markers. To remove wet erase markers, simply mositen them. Disposable wipes come in handy for quick spot removal and remarking. If you are cleaning the whole Acrylic Layer, use a glass cleaner and paper towels or cloths.

How do I remove permanent marker from my acrylic surface?

An old school remedy is, if a sharpie type permanent marker was applied, running the ink of a dry erase marker over it will usually remove the scar. We also carry a deep cleaning product for such a situation, or if staining occurs over time. This product is a solvent and must be applied carefully-- it will not only remove the stain, but also the catalyzed lacquer coating the wood of the table, so do not spray it on any of the wooden surfaces!

Is the Acrylic Layer scratch-resistant?

Yes and no, Treat the surfaces as you would a dry erase board and you should be just fine. If damage occurs, it can be repaired with a plastics kit.

What if it breaks?

The acrylic we use is both durable and flexible. It shouldn't break in normal use. However, if some accident maims it, we can help you replace it.
