The Rail System
Your furniture's utility belt
That's right, we said it. "Couldn't my furniture be a little less Robin and a little more Batman?"
With the Geek Chic rail system, yes, yes it can. (Granted, Batman and Robin both had utility belts, but who wants a table that's just going to get itself kidnapped?) The Geek Chic rail system allows you to add and configure useful accessories around your table via a groove cut into the side. Attach bins, cup holders, desks, and more with this easy-to-use system!
How it works
Simply hook the accessory onto the table at a 45° angle and lower it until it is seated properly at a horizontal level. To remove, tilt the accessory at the same 45° angle and remove it from the groove.
Rails vs. Drawers
For the sake of structural integrity, the Rail System cannot exist on any side of the table with built-in Drawers. In other words, you can order rails on all sides, drawers on all sides, or rails on some and drawers on the others, but you can't have 'em both on the same side.
Likewise, in order to avoid strain on the system, we don't make rail accessories longer than 24" or wider than 11 1/2".
Rail Desks
Locking desk
The locking desk cannot be moved or removed from the rail until you pull back the catches on either side. This keeps it in place, and prevents it from being overturned by pets, children, wayward knees, etc.
Desk with shelf
This desk has a small storage built underneath it, which fits several standard RPG manuals. It can be 18", 21", or 24" long. Optional locks.
Laptop use note: Emissary, Envoy, Portal, and Rift tables have a 3"-4" overhang that makes all rail desks not deep enough for most laptops. Please talk with your Geek Chic valet regarding laptop use with your table's rail system!
Accessories
- Bins come in a variety of sizes and have many uses. Manage small pieces away from the play surface, roll dice, remove expired figures from the battlefield-- whatever you might need a bin for. Optional velvet lining.
- Dice Rolling Bins are 4.5"x23"x2" and include a velvet lining. They're like a long skinny bin specifically for dice rolling.
- Cup holders hold cups, glasses, most aluminum cans, most beer bottles, 1 liter plastic bottles, dice, pens/pencils, snack foods, etc. The aluminum cup tin is removable and dishwasher safe. 3" deep, 3.1/4" diameter. Optional locks.
- Wine glass holders handle most stemware admirably.
- Counter holders are useful for holding a good handful of dice or counters.
- Entropy Engines are wooden dice rollers that randomize your numbers in style. A rail cleat can be attached to an Entropy Engine, enabling it to attach to the rail system.
Locking accessories
Locking accessories correspond to standard rail accessories, but have wooden catches on both sides, and will not be removed from the table until you reach under and pull back both catches. Locks are recommended for pet owners, child wranglers, and dining-height tables (where getting up from your seat might cause deskal catastrophe).
