THE KEEP

For your precioussss.

$3k for a mint in-box Maskatron is only crazy when you put it on a pressboard shelf in your basement.

The Keep is a stylish, beautifully made display and storage solution. Variant shelf levels act as an elegant labyrinth for your attention, causing the eye to follow its chosen path to a point of contemplation-- maybe it's a Ming vase, maybe it's an rocket-firing Boba Fett, that's not really up to us. What is up to us is providing an environment where a multitude of items can be featured together in an intentional and attractive way.

Of course, some things need a place to live whether or not you're displaying them. The bureau features four sliding drawers (just the right depth for storing miniatures and terrain) and a single large storage area underneath, with moving panels that let you easily get to the back corners.

If it's worth collecting, it's worth displaying... in The Keep.

Your Valet will assist you with making sure you get the size the will fit your space and most importantly your collection!

WOOD CHOICES

Geek Chic furniture is all hand-crafted from strong, straight-grained hardwoods, sourced from certified sustainable forests.

To help you choose, your Valet will send you a packet of wood samples for you to peruse in the natural light of your intended space.

GEEK KNOWLEDGE:  Stain?  Not if we can help it!
FAS grade lumber is the top industry standard grade of lumber used for high-end furniture. Being the wood geeks we are, we have a created a specialty "Geek Chic grade" of even higher quality lumber that does not need to be stained. (Although you may add-on stain should you choose.) All the images you see on this website are not stained unless specifically stated. You are seeing the quality of our lumber with a clear conversion varnish sealant-- no stain is covering up inferior grades of wood!

CONVERSION VARNISH

Conversion varnish is the clear finish most commonly used in the high-end furniture market.  This unsung hero of the finish world is extremely durable, and rated for heavy use. Its a little tricky to apply, but it is worth it.  Unlike lacquers and polyurethanes, conversion varnish is completely water-resistant, so you needn’t worry about water, wine or hot beverage stains!

Conversion varnish is also a dream to clean-just use mild soap and water and a non-abrasive cloth.  Gamer-proof!
GEEK KNOWLEDGE:  Household Chemicals Tests show that conversion varnish has no visual effect to Household Ammonia, Vinegar, Lemon Juice, 50% Ethyl Alcohol, Red Ink, Oil Base Paint, Latex Emulsion Paint, VM&P Naphtha, Turpentine, Orange Crayon, Carbon Tetrachloride, 10% Sodium Carbonate Solution, Water, and Grease--Conversion varnish is a superior coating to any brand of varnish, lacquer, or polyurethane!

FEATURES

Tiered Display

The Keep's attractively asymmetrical 12'' deep shelving allows you to store a wide variety of items, large and small, in a cohesive and interesting way.

The display unit can separate from the bureau for the purposes of moving, and includes double glass doors with twisted, wrought-iron like hardware-- loops, in case you'd like to slide a padlock through them.

Locked Shelf
A touch of mystery-- the upper corner of your Keep features a small, lockable shelf.

Flat-File Storage
Whether you're filing away minis, terrain, or cloth napkins, the multiple levels of The Keep's bureau storage have you covered. Wrought-iron looking drawer pulls on either side and 100lb drawer slides ensure a sturdy, beautiful place to keep your goods. The top two drawers have a usable depth of 2 1/4'' and the next two drawers have a usable depth of 3 1/4''.

Floor Level Storage
Four 10'' high sliding doors at the bottom mask the view of the 12'' high bottom shelf, while at the same time making it possible for you to access the back without the awkward reaching.

CONFIGURATION

The Keep comes in two parts-- the hutch, which is the tiered display shelving at the top, and the bureau, which is the set of flat file storage drawers underneath. While we don't sell the hutch by itself (putting it on the ground by itself would be a breakable, breakable bad idea) we do sell just the bureau. The bureau section has 4 drawers, two of which are 2 1/4" deep and two are 3 1/4" deep. The very bottom is an open shelf with four 10" tall sliding panel doors.

Before you ask, yes, we are looking into making a top-to-bottom full display cabinet.
